The creation of the Girl character was inspired by the pseudo modernist typefaces Vogue used in the late sixties. Letter details and its large rhythm are reminiscent of Diana Vreeland’s eccentric and experimental editorial style during this period.

Around the same time, Cristóbal Balenciaga, whom Vreeland admired, was on the peak of his career. Large bias ovals and sharp, clean lines characterized his dresses at the height of geometric experimentation in haute couture.

From Balenciaga’s iconic silhouettes, the Girl typeface inherits letter stems with tapered outer lines and carefully geometrically constructed details.
